Chat is a great way to tell an agent what you want. It is a poor way to see what the agent actually did. When an agent writes a spec, edits a config, and drafts an email, those artifacts scroll past in the transcript and are gone. The Artifact window fixes that.
A workspace, not a transcript
The Artifact window is a per-session file explorer pinned beside the chat. Every file the agent creates or edits shows up there, grouped and versioned, so the conversation stays about intent while the files stay about output. You can open any artifact, read it, and see exactly which turn produced it.
Watch the work, not the tokens
Because it updates live, you can watch an agent build in real time: a spec appears, gets refined two turns later, and lands as the thing you asked for. No raw tool calls, no noise. Just the files, as they change.
This is the first of several posts on how the workspace makes an agent’s work legible. Next up: the phase indicator.
